Naples, FL – Six former Masters Champions are the latest players to
inform tournament officials that they will compete in the 2010 ACE
Group Classic at The Quarry in Naples. The list is highlighted by 2009
Champions Tour Player of the Year Bernhard Langer and also includes
last year’s third place finisher Ben Crenshaw, Naples National member
Fuzzy Zoeller, Ian Woosnam, Craig Stadler and Larry Mize. The ACE Group
Classic will be held February 8 – 14.
Tournament officials have also announced that 2009 U.S. Senior Open
champion Fred Funk has officially committed to the event. The ACE Group
Classic will be the 2010 debut for Funk, who underwent a right knee
replacement operation on November 16.
“This is a very exciting time for us as we get closer to the event and the marquee names continue to roll in,” said Tournament Director Jason Camp. “We expect to have even more of the Champions Tour greats joining these seven guys in February. You don’t want to miss some of golf’s history in your own backyard when The ACE Group Classic comes to The Quarry.”
World Golf Hall of Fame member Langer returns to Naples for the second time after finishing T3 last year. He earned 2009 Player of the Year honors and the Byron Nelson Award for lowest scoring average after winning four times and finishing atop the Official Money List for the second straight season. Langer, a native of Germany, won the Masters twice, in 1985 and 1993.
Crenshaw, also a World Golf Hall of Fame member and a two-time Masters champion, is known as one of the best putters to ever play the game. He captured his two green jackets in 1984 and 1995. Last year, Crenshaw’s best finish came at The ACE Group Classic, tying for third with Langer.
Fuzzy is revered for his determination to make everyone from C-level tournament partners to volunteers feel noticed and welcomed. Zoeller’s engaging personality does not outweigh his achievements, though. He is the 1979 Masters champion, 1984 U.S. Open champion and a 10-time PGA TOUR winner.
Woosnam is a first-time participant at The ACE Group Classic. The 51 year-old native of Wales has played a limited schedule on the Champions Tour while splitting time on the European Seniors Tour. He won the Masters in 1991.
Stadler is the 1982 Masters champion. The eight-time Champions Tour winner and 13-time PGA TOUR champion is affectionately known as “the Walrus” to golf fans around the world.
Mize is a four-time PGA TOUR winner, but he is best remembered for chipping in from 140 feet to win the 1987 Masters in a playoff against Greg Norman and Seve Ballesteros. He was a runner-up for Champions Tour Rookie of the Year honors in 2009, his first full season on the over-50 circuit.
